WilmaGate: an Open Wireless Access Gateway
An access gateway specifically designed for usage in wireless networks according to the principles of Open Access Networks (OANs, see here for details) is being designed at the Department of Information and Communication Technology of the University of Trento. Its main design features are:
- support for multiple external authentication providers
- extensible support for several authentication techniques
- firewalling
- accounting
Two prototypes of the gateway system, called WilmaGate, are already managing the hotspots of the WILMA OpenLab testbed.
The WilmaGate system is created as part of the WILMA Project, sponsored by the Autonomous Province of Trento and participated by ITC-irst, the University of Trento and Alpikom Spa.
The software shall be distributed according to the open source model, with
free usage for research and non-profit purposes.
